5 reasons to do a working holiday in the UK

And we don't even mention the roast dinner...

Home to world-famous art and music festivals, beautiful Cornish beaches, stunning Scottish Highlands, forward-looking cities, one-pub towns, the UK has buckets to offer the working traveller.

If you are considering going to the UK, here are five reasons to make you want to go even more.

1. Four countries in one

Deals don't come better than this. When you do a working holiday in the UK, you can travel between four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Among these countries, you will find unique cultures, traditions, landscapes, and many different accents. From the beaches of southern Wales to the lochs of Scotland, and the big cities of England to the countryside pubs of Northern Ireland – you're getting four for the price of one.

2. Ease of travel

Whether you are travelling within the UK or to other destinations in Europe, travel could not be easier. For example, you can take a two-hour train from London to Paris, Amsterdam or Brussels for around $100. Weekend trips to Europe have never been easier - there are also budget airlines flying out of all major UK cities all over the world.

3. Culture and lifestyle

Although the UK is only one country (technically), it is home to some of the most welcoming and culturally diverse people, with unique customs and quirks. The big cities of London, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Belfast have populations from all around the world, who bring incredible food and festivities. Beyond the big cities, the UK pub culture is world famous – a meeting place for everyone and anyone. You'll meet many a local and hear many a story, whether you requested it or not.

4. Prospering job market

The UK is one of the global economic leaders, which means there are job opportunities with industry-leaders. From fashion and finance to marketing and music, it's a great place to grow your network. The United Kingdom also prides itself on managing a well-functioning economy, including low taxation rates and some of the biggest manufacturing companies.

5. Living in history

If you are a history buff, or just interested in a country older than Canada, the UK has some of the most beautiful historical landmarks. If you travel to England, you can find some of the oldest libraries in the world, fortress ruins, cathedrals, coastal wonders, fossil beaches –the old stuff is the best.

Outside of England, you can find castles that are at least 800 years old, the Calanais Standing Stones, and Giant’s Ring, an old passage tomb, thought to be older than the Egyptian pyramids. There is so much to explore both in the the UK and on its doorstep.
