The US work Visa for Canadians is not without rules. Check these conditions to see if you qualify.
Experience: Have a post-secondary degree and 1 year of full-time work experience OR have 5 years of full-time work experience in your field.
Placement: Secure a traineeship that is directly related to your field of study/job experience.
Nationality: Canadian passport holders or international students enrolled in a Canadian institution.
Required Savings: You must be able to support yourself during your time in the US and provide proof of financial support (min $1,500 USD/month in the USA). This can be presented via a bank statement or a guarantor letter.
Criminal Check:Must have no criminal record.
Health Insurance: Health insurance is provided through Aetna for the duration of your time in the USA.
Registration Timeline: You are allotted 2 weeks to complete your application. After submitting your application, the review process can take 6-8 weeks. Do not make travel or accommodation arrangements until your program coordinator lets you know that everything is good to go.
Duration: You can stay in the USA for up to 20 months (18 months of training, 2 months of in-country travel).
Start Date: You can start at any time of the year!

Step 1: Make sure you’re eligible to apply.
Step 2: Once you've found a USA training opportunity related to your current field of professional work, complete the Professional Career Training USA Profile Form and review the Professional Career Training USA Program Pricing.
Step 3: Once completed, email the profile form to the Traineeship Program Coordinator at internships@swap.ca.
Step 4: Your traineeship coordinator will determine your eligibility for the program. They will then open up an online application form and training plan for you.
Step 5: You complete your application and training plan with the help of your host organization.
Step 6: After reviewing your application, we’ll process your program payment, and submit your application.
Step 7: 6-8 weeks later, your application will be approved, and your visa documents will be sent to you.
Step 8: You’ll go through our online pre-departure orientation to make sure you’re prepared for your trip.
Step 9: It’s time to start your US adventure!
