What's a Working Holiday?
We get asked this question all the time, so you’ve come to the right place. The SWAP team has helped young Canadians, like you, have successful working holidays for over 45 years – you could say we’re Working Holiday experts!
A working holiday is a visa category developed by governments around the world to create more accessible opportunities for youth to work and travel in different countries. These experiences help Canadian youth explore the world, learn from other cultures, and gain valuable work experience while they do it. It’s the best way to experience life in another country!
We understand that moving to a foreign country on your own can be a little overwhelming – our programs aim to support Canadians through the process of living and working abroad. It’s our goal to make your move easy and stress free!
We offer supportive working holiday programs in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Japan, and USA. Some of our programs also offer a multi-day planned itinerary at the beginning of your trip so that you can easily get set up to work, all while enjoying your new city and making lasting friendships from the day you arrive.
A working holiday is meant to be an immersive way to experience a new country in a way a tourist cannot. By spending one or two years abroad, you’ll gain a much deeper sense of, and appreciation for local customs, culture, language, food, and lifestyle that a one-week vacation just can’t provide.
No one expects you to save up for a year off, so being able to work during your stay helps you support yourself and make the most of all there is to explore in your new home!
