Known as the Capital of Classical Music, Austria produced musical masterminds like Mozart, Strauss, and Beethoven, a beloved opera, and, yes, even an opera toilet (a street toilet with world-class interiors, décor, and music… it doesn’t get any more Viennese than this!)

International travel is not without rules. Check these conditions to see if you qualify.
Age: Canadians ages 18-30.Language Requirement: Applicants must be proficient in German. For our partners in Austria to be able to assist you, you will need to be confident that you can attend a job interview held completely in German. Without this level of language, we do not recommend you choose this program.
Nationality: These adventures are open to Canadians only.
Required Savings: You need to have savings of at least $2,500 CAD prior to your arrival in Austria.
Criminal Check: Must have no criminal record.
Health Insurance: Health insurance is required for the duration of your stay.
Registration Timeline: Please apply for SWAP Austria at least 6 weeks prior to departure.
Duration: You can stay in Austria for up to 12 months. This visa is multiple-entry.
Start Date: You can start at any time of the year!

Important Notes About the Visa and Extra Costs:
For your convenience, we have separated the visa and biometric fees from the SWAP Work in Austria program, since they must be paid directly to the Austrian Embassy. The visa cost is €150. Don’t worry though, we’ll still be there to help you figure this out during your application. You must attend an appointment in person at the Austrian Embassy in Ottawa as no other consulates in Canada offer biometrics. Appointment availability is limited and wait times can be long. Before registering, please ensure you can travel to Ottawa to have your biometrics completed. We can assist you in arranging an appointment, but we do not recommend booking travel to Ottawa until your appointment has been scheduled. You will pay for your Austrian working holiday visa and biometrics at your appointment. We will lay out each step of this process so that it’s easy for you to understand. This visa can only be acquired once, making it (literally) once-in-a-lifetime (and totally worth it)!Working and living in Austria with SWAP is easy! Step 3: SWAP confirms your registration and welcomes you to the program, sending you instructions on how to book your biometrics appointment, apply for the visa, what you need to prepare for your trip, and a proof of registration letter to take to your appointment.
Step 4: Your visa gets approved, and we book your arrival accommodation and send your pre-departure guide for you to review.
Step 5: You arrive in Vienna and start the best year of your life in beautiful Austria!
