The Ireland Package at a Glance

Eligibility: Canadians who are full-time post-secondary STUDENTS and/or 2011 graduates and full-time students have until Feb 2012 to apply. Minimum age 18; no maximum age limit. Part-time students are not eligible. NON-STUDENTS are eligible between the ages of 18-35

Your passport must be valid for 18-months from arrival date into Ireland.

Registration Deadline: Apply 8 weeks prior to departure for students; 6 weeks for non-students.

Repeat Participation: Yes, but you must wait a year between programs.

Visa Duration: 1 year

Registration Fee:
$400 for both Students and Non-Students

Support Funds: $2,500. What are support funds?

Visa

STUDENT: One-year Irish Work Permit: you choose the date the visa begins. If you are graduating in 2011, you must enter Ireland before the 29th of February 2012

NON-STUDENT: One-year Irish Working Holiday Visa between the ages of 18 - 35

DON'T FORGET -- If you participated in SWAP Ireland as a student, you can participate again as a non-student! You must return to Canada for one-year between your Ireland visas.

THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENT AFFECTS ALL PARTICIPANTS ON SWAP IRELAND, BOTH STUDENTS AND NON-STUDENTS: The Irish government charges and additional fee of 150 Euros (approx $250 CAD) for all non-EU and EEA citizens coming to live or work in Ireland, including SWAP participants. This fee is payable AFTER arrival in Ireland. Details of how to register at an office of the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) and pay this fee to the will be provided at the arrival orientation provided by USIT, SWAP's partner in Dublin.

  • Arrival orientation in Dublin hosted by our Irish partner organization, USIT. The orientation you will receive is vital; you will receive tips on securing work, finding accommodation and information on red tape issues

  • USIT provides ongoing guidance, support and emergency services in Dublin for the full duration of your stay
  • Mail-drop and mail-forwarding services in Dublin
